Stephen Higgins, Executive Chef and Director of Purchasing

Steve “Higby” Higgins joined the Hearth ’n Kettle team 29 years ago, working his way up from line cook to Executive Chef, to his current position of Executive Chef/Director of Purchasing. Combining his own creativity with input from his team of chefs, Steve is charged with developing new H’n K menus and specials seasonally. He constantly tests new ingredients and entrées and shops the vendors to make sure that everything on the menu is “H’nK Approved” (link here to explanation). That means each item must be 3 things: wholesome, great tasting and competitively priced. Steve visits all six H’nK locations regularly, working closely with each chef on the proper preparation and execution of the H’nK brand.

Every Spring and Fall, Steve teaches a 10 week cooking class for men at the Yarmouth Senior Center. He says it is one of his most rewarding moments as a chef…many of the men have never cooked for themselves! “Mostly it’s a very social gathering to share a home cooked meal, jokes, war stories and company,” he says.
